- Macabeo is a type of grape from Spain. It is full of resveratrol, which is rich in polyphenols and has a high antioxidant effect. Spanish red wines require a very long aging time, winemakers usually mix some Macabeo (Viura) white grape juice when making wine to resist oxidation. In Catalonia, Spain, this variety will be used with Parellada and Xarel-lo to make the well-known CAVA wine.
- The wines produced by Macabeo generally have a complex aroma of tropical fruits and vanilla, and the taste is refreshing and mild. Depending on the brewing method, wines can also create different flavors. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, for example, the wines often exhibit fresh fruit and floral aromas, with freshness of white mountain flowers and a hint of almond bitterness. But if aged in oak barrels, the liquor tends to develop sweet nutty and creamy flavours.
